Technical SEO: 10 fixes that improve rankings
Charlie, Head of SEO · 30 April 2026 · 5 min read
Technical SEO is not exciting, but a handful of issues quietly cap the performance of most sites. Here is the prioritised list we work through on every audit.
The list
- Fix indexation: make sure your money pages are actually in the index and your junk pages are not.
- Resolve duplicate URLs with canonicals — trailing slashes and parameters split your authority.
- Get the Core Web Vitals into the green, starting with the largest contentful paint.
- Add structured data for the things you actually are: local business, articles, FAQs.
- Fix the internal linking so your important pages are no more than two clicks from the home page.
- Kill orphan pages and redirect chains.
- Make every page mobile-usable, not just mobile-responsive.
- Compress and lazy-load images — it is still the easiest speed win.
- Submit a clean sitemap and prune anything returning non-200s.
- Monitor it. Technical debt comes back if nobody is watching.
Work top to bottom. The first five fix the majority of problems on most sites.
